The Mortimer Levitt Foundation is a charitable family foundation whose main philanthropy is the development and support of Levitt Pavilions for the Performing Arts across America. There are currently five Levitt Pavilions producing the Levitt Pavilion program of 50 or more free concerts in 2008-2009 season. There are summer concert seasons this year in the Pasadena and Los Angeles, California Levitt Pavilions, as well as in the original Levitt Pavilion in Westport, Connecticut. Opening in September 2008 will be both the Levitt Pavilion in Memphis, Tennessee and the Levitt Pavilion in Arlington, Texas.

Levitt Pavilions are community resources, locally controlled, programmed and managed. Each Levitt Pavilion has its own unique character and personality, as an integral part of the specific community it represents. They are held together by their common purpose, mutual support, national recognition, and the assistance they receive from the Mortimer Levitt Foundation. The Mortimer Levitt Foundation provides seed capital and capital improvement contributions for the local effort, as well as matching ongoing operational funding for at least the first five years of operation. The Mortimer Levitt Foundation also offers best practices guidelines, technical support, booking opportunities and assistance in establishing their local organization and fundraising.

The Mortimer Levitt Foundation is in active discussions with additional communities around the country, and encourages anyone interested in bringing this program to their community to contact Liz Hirsch at 310.275.4085.

Levitt Pavilions are outdoor performance venues, characterized by grassy lawn seating, top quality sound and lighting, and first-class music and performing artists.  They are typically in public parks, actively supported by public officials, business and community leaders, and people from throughout the community and from all walks of life.  Levitt Pavilions are community treasures, hosting the Levitt Pavilion program of 50 or more concerts in the park each year, totally free to the public, supported by a combination of individual, corporate, and private foundation contributions.

The music and children's programming represents dozens of genres, world-class artists, and the opportunity for individuals and families, regardless of their ethnicity, background, culture, or economic and social situation to enjoy a wide selection of great music in a beautiful, close-up, personal and memorable setting.  The unreserved lawn seating encourages and promotes sharing the experience with friends, family and neighbors, and creates an opportunity for making new friends and bringing the community closer together.  A concert at a Levitt Pavilion is a truly magical experience.
